Gizlilik politikası

Gizlilik politikasının tam metni şimdilik İngilizce ve Felemenkçedir. İngilizce metni aşağıda okuyabilirsin.

Version of 3 October 2026.

The app is being tested and is not yet on the App Store. In the test version the translation service is switched off: the app translates on your device and no text is sent to a server. What this policy says about the translation service applies once that service is switched on. Before then we will add the name of the provider of the language model, the region where text is processed and how long that provider keeps requests.

In short

  • Your audio stays on your phone. Speech recognition runs on your device. Audio is not sent anywhere and is not stored.
  • No account. The app does not ask for a name, an email address, a phone number or your location.
  • For translation, only text goes to our translation service, and the service does not store it.
  • Your sessions are stored only on your device. We cannot access them.
  • No ads, no trackers, no usage statistics.

Why we are this careful

Someone who uses this app is following a khutbah. That allows a religious belief to be inferred, which the GDPR (Article 9) treats as a special category of personal data. The app is therefore built so that we do not know who you are and cannot see what you have read.

What happens on your device

DataWhat happens to it
Sound from the microphoneTurned into text on your device. The sound is not stored and never leaves your device.
Text of the khutbah and its translationStored on your device as a session, so you can read it back.
Summary, key points, the mosque name you enter yourselfKept with the session, on your device.
Settings (languages, text size, theme, reminders)Stored on your device.
Counter for your free khutbah of the monthStored in your device's keychain.
Friday remindersLocal notifications from your device. There are no push messages.
The speech modelYour device downloads it once (see "Who else is involved") and then uses it without a network.

If you back up your iPhone (iCloud Backup or to your computer), your sessions are part of that backup, under Apple's terms. The speech models are not part of the backup. The app itself does not sync anything with iCloud.

What goes to the translation service

To translate well, the app sends the text of each sentence to our translation service. The service passes the text to a language model and returns the translation.

What the app sends:

  • the sentence to translate, with the last few sentences as context;
  • the languages, and a list of words to leave untranslated (such as "taqwa");
  • a random number for the session and the length of the piece of audio, to count usage;
  • proof that the request comes from the genuine app (Apple App Attest);
  • with Premium: the proof of subscription that Apple issues; with the free version: an Apple DeviceCheck token, with which Apple remembers for us whether this device has used its free khutbah of the month.

What the translation service does not receive: sound, your name, your email address, your location, your contacts, an advertising identifier or the name of the mosque.

What the translation service keeps:

  • no text: sentences, translations and summaries are not stored and not logged;
  • one log line per request with the kind of request, the outcome and the duration, without content and without an IP address;
  • the public key of your installation (to recognize requests from the genuine app); it is removed 400 days after it was last used;
  • the number of translated minutes per month, per subscription or per installation; it is removed a little over a month after the end of that month.

The service passes only the text, the context and the word list on to the language model: no session number and nothing about your device or your subscription.

When there is no connection, or online translation is unavailable, your device translates by itself (Apple Translate). Nothing goes to our service then. The app shows when this is the case.

Quran verses are never translated by AI. The app recognizes a verse on your device and shows the recognized translation that ships with the app.

Summary (Premium)

For the summary, the app sends the text of the whole session to the translation service, under the same conditions as above. If that is not possible, your device makes the summary itself where it supports that.

Who else is involved

PartyRoleWhat it processes
AppleApp Store, subscriptions, App Attest, DeviceCheck, Apple Translate on your deviceYour purchase through your Apple account; two bits per device for the free khutbah.
CloudflareRuns our translation serviceThe traffic to the service (including your IP address, as transport data) and the counters above.
The provider of the language modelTranslates the text and makes the summary, once the translation service is switched onThe text of the sentences, without data about you. The provider will be named here before the service is switched on.
Hugging FaceHosts the files of the speech model (WhisperKit)Your device fetches the model there when you download it. Hugging Face sees your IP address and which model you fetch, and nothing of a khutbah.

If you choose "Translation without internet" in Settings, your device downloads the language pack from Apple. If Apple's speech recognition is available on your device, iOS manages its language packs itself.

This website

khutbah.eu sets no cookies and uses no statistics, advertising or trackers. There are no forms and you cannot create an account. Fonts, images and scripts are served by the site itself, not by a third party.

The site is hosted by Netlify, a company in the United States. Like any hosting provider, Netlify processes your IP address and the page you request in its server logs, also outside the European Union. Netlify does this on our behalf, under its data processing agreement. For the transfer to the United States, Netlify is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and uses the standard contractual clauses of the European Commission.

If you send us an email, we use your address and your message only to answer you.

On what legal basis

What happens on your device stays on your device: we receive none of it. The little we process ourselves (showing this website and answering your email) rests on our legitimate interest in running the site and answering you (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). You buy your subscription from Apple; we receive no data by which we could recognize you.

We will state the legal basis for the translation service here before it is switched on, together with the name of the provider of the language model.

How long we keep things

On your device: until you delete it. In the app you can delete one session, or erase all sessions under Settings › Privacy; that erases the storage file itself. If you delete the app, the sessions and the speech models are removed. Only the counter for your free khutbah (one number per month) and the key of your installation stay in your device's keychain, so that reinstalling the app does not hand out the same month's free khutbah again.

At the translation service: see above. Text is not kept.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right of access, rectification, erasure and objection. Because we hold no account and no data by which we could recognize you, we cannot view or delete your sessions: they exist only on your device, where you control them yourself. If you have a question or a complaint, contact us at the address under "Who we are". You may also lodge a complaint with your data protection authority (in the Netherlands: the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).

Children

The app is not directed at children and does not ask for data by which anyone could be recognized.

Changes

If the app changes in a way that affects this policy, we will update the policy and state the date at the top.
