Khutbah

The Friday sermon, translated live

Understand the khutbah in your own language.

Khutbah listens along and turns the sermon into text you can read, sentence by sentence. Quran verses appear in a recognized translation. The mosque does not have to install anything, and your audio never leaves your phone.

For iPhone, with iOS 26 or later

The app during a khutbah: the translation in English, with a Quran verse shown as a card

How it works

One tap, then you read along.

  1. Tap start

Put your phone down. Speech recognition runs on your device; during the khutbah you do not have to touch anything.

  2. Read along

The translation appears sentence by sentence and scrolls by itself. One tap dims the screen, so you disturb no one.

  3. Read it back

Afterwards the khutbah is on your phone, with the verses that were mentioned. With Premium you also get the key points.

Features

Made for that one half hour on Friday.

  • Read along live

A khutbah in Arabic or Turkish, read in English, Dutch or Turkish. Whatever the language model translates is marked as AI translation.

  • Quran verses in a recognized translation

A quoted verse is recognized and shown as a card, with the Arabic text and the translation of a recognized publisher. Never from the language model.

  • Standard formulas

The opening, the salawat and the closing get their fixed translation and fold away, so the text stays calm.

  • Glossary

Terms like taqwa and shukr stay as they are. One tap gives the explanation.

  • Summary and archive

Premium gives you the key points, practical lessons, a spoken recap, PDF export and a searchable archive.

  • At home on your iPhone

A widget that counts down to Friday, reminders, and “Start khutbah” with Siri or the Action button. With Premium you also follow the khutbah as a Live Activity in the Dynamic Island.

In the app

Easy to read, also afterwards.

  • The Verses tab with a Quran verse in Arabic and its English translation
The verses that were mentioned, in Arabic and with their translation
  • The summary of a khutbah with numbered key points
The key points of the khutbah
  • The home screen with the start button and the latest sessions
    One button to begin

Privacy

Your audio stays on your phone.

If you use this app, you are following a khutbah. That says something about your faith, and that is nobody’s business. So Khutbah is built in a way that we do not know who you are.

  • Recognition on your device

The sound is turned into text on your iPhone. Audio is not sent anywhere and is not stored.

  • No account

No name, no email address, no phone number and no location.

  • Sessions only with you

What you can read back is on your phone. We cannot access it.

  • No ads, no trackers

Not in the app and not on this website. This site sets no cookies.

Questions

Good to know.

Does the mosque have to install anything?

No. The app listens through the microphone of your own iPhone. No equipment, no mosque wifi and no account are needed.

Is my audio stored or sent anywhere?

No. Speech recognition runs on your iPhone; the sound is not stored and does not leave your device. For translation, at most the text of a sentence goes to our translation service. Without a connection your device translates by itself.

How reliable is the translation?

The spoken text is translated by a language model and is always marked as AI translation; a sentence can be off. Quran verses never come from the language model: the app recognizes the verse and shows the text from Tanzil with a recognized translation from QuranEnc.

Does it work without internet?

Yes. You download the speech model once (up to about 600 MB); after that, recognition works without a network. Without a connection the app translates on your device, if you have downloaded the languages for that.

Which iPhone does Khutbah work on?

On an iPhone with iOS 26 or later. On newer devices the app picks a more accurate speech model.

What does it cost?

One khutbah per month is free, up to 60 minutes. Premium costs €4.99 per month or €34.99 per year; the yearly plan starts with a free week and can be shared with your family.

How do I cancel my subscription?

On your iPhone, under Settings → your name → Subscriptions. You keep Premium until the end of the period you paid for.

When will the app be available?

Khutbah is being tested now and is coming to the App Store soon.
